How it works
From panic to secure
Disconnect and call
Unplug the internet or turn off the Wi-Fi, then call your local technician. That alone stops anyone still connected.
Your technician comes to you
Your local technician works out what got in, what it did, and whether anyone had hands-on access to the machine.
Clean and secure
The infection comes off, remote access is shut down, and exposed accounts get sorted properly.
You know what to watch
Your local technician will leave you clear on what to report, what to monitor, and how the scam worked in the first place.
How we can help
Virus removal and help after a computer scam
Pop-ups & suspicious programs
Describe suspicious messages, browser redirects, unwanted extensions, spyware alerts or unexpected programs so we can assess whether malware or remote-access software is involved. Not every pop-up means the same infection. Do not send account passwords in your enquiry.
Remote-access scam cleanup
Tell us about any remote-access session you allowed. We assess the computer and discuss malware removal, updates and protection steps. Device cleanup cannot establish that no information was previously accessed.
Ransomware assessment
Removing malicious software does not necessarily unlock encrypted files. Tell us what happened and whether usable backups exist before resetting the computer. File recovery is a separate task and cannot be guaranteed.
Missing files & usable backups
Our data recovery and backup assessment explains available options and any separately quoted specialist work. Recovery depends on the device, damage and available data; successful recovery is not guaranteed.
Account-protection guidance
We help with the affected computer and practical account-protection steps. If payments or banking details are involved, contact your bank promptly. Computer cleanup is not a financial recovery or bank-security guarantee.

For guidance using devices after cleanup, explore in-home computer help and training for seniors. We can discuss practical tasks and the scope of further help before booking.
What it costs
What a virus clean-up costs
The initial consultation is $89, including travel within the service area, diagnosis and the first 30 minutes of work. Additional time is $25 per 15-minute block. Your local technician explains and agrees the expected cost with you before continuing. Parts and specialist lab services are quoted separately and require your approval. The $89 initial consultation fee applies even if a repair or recovery is not possible. There is no separate callout fee.
Your visit starts with an $89 initial consultation. Your local technician explains the expected cost of any further work before continuing. If a job needs parts or more time than expected, your local technician stops and tells you what it will cost, and you decide.

Virus & scam recovery FAQs
A scammer accessed your computer. What should you do right now?
Disconnect the computer from the internet straight away — unplug the cable or switch off the Wi-Fi — which immediately cuts anyone still connected. Don't use that computer for banking or email until it's been checked. If you gave them card or banking details, or they moved money, ring your bank now rather than waiting for a technician. Then call and your local technician will come and check what was installed and what was reachable.
How can you tell if the virus is really gone?
A pop-up disappearing doesn't mean the infection has gone, and scam tools are specifically built to survive a restart and look normal. Your local technician checks what's set to launch at startup, what remote-access software is installed, what browser extensions and settings were changed, and whether anything is still calling out. You get told what was found rather than just being handed back a machine that looks fine.
Should you change your passwords, and in what order?
Yes, but order matters and most people get it wrong. Change your email password first, because that's what everything else resets through, then banking, then anything that shares the old password. Do it from a different device until the infected machine is confirmed clean — changing passwords on a compromised computer just hands over the new ones. Your local technician will work through this with you.
Will you be judged for falling for a scam?
No. These scams are professionally written and designed to create panic, and they catch careful, intelligent people every week. There is nothing embarrassing about it. Contact your local technician as soon as possible — the sooner it's dealt with, the less there may be to clean up.
Can files locked by ransomware be recovered?
Recovery depends on the ransomware variant and whether usable backups or a suitable decryption tool exist. We can assess the affected device, discuss cleanup and help restore available backups. File recovery and complete account recovery cannot be guaranteed. If money or banking details are involved, contact your bank promptly; computer cleanup does not recover transferred funds.
Been scammed or infected? Ask about a visit.
