How it works
From data loss to a recovery plan
Stop and call
Power the device down and call your local technician. Using it further is the main thing that turns a recoverable drive into an unrecoverable one.
Assess the device
Your local technician comes to you and works out what's failed and what can realistically be recovered from it.
You get a straight answer
A quote and an honest likelihood — including when the answer is that a specialist lab is the only real option.
Recover what is possible, then plan backups
Recovered files go onto a drive you keep, and your local technician will set up a backup so you're covered from here on.
How we can help
Local data recovery assessment and backup options
Failed hard drives & devices
Tell us the device type, symptoms and what happened before your files became inaccessible. Recovery options and costs depend on whether the fault is logical or physical. Stop using a device that may be failing.
Deleted photos & files
Recovery depends on whether the data is still present and accessible. Tell us whether you have another copy or backup. Avoid installing recovery tools onto the affected drive or overwriting it with new files.
USB drives not recognised
An unrecognised USB may have a connection, device or storage fault. Avoid formatting it. Describe the symptoms so we can discuss the safest assessment options without promising a recovery result.
Damage & specialist lab work
Describe unusual noises, liquid exposure or other damage. Some cases require a specialist lab instead of onsite recovery. Parts and specialist recovery are quoted separately; the initial consultation remains payable for assessment.
Recovery costs & next steps
The initial consultation is $89, including usual-area travel, diagnosis and the first 30 minutes. Further onsite work is $25 per 15-minute block, agreed first. Discuss any computer repair needed afterwards.
Backups & protection
After assessment, discuss a backup plan for your important files. Tell us which copies or backups you already have. For loss involving malware or a scam, see our virus and scam cleanup help.

Data recovery FAQs
Can you recover files from a hard drive that won't turn on?
Recovery depends on the device and the fault. A drive that will not power on may need specialist assessment; clicking or grinding can indicate physical damage. Stop using it and describe the symptoms before attempting recovery. The $89 initial consultation covers the onsite assessment and first 30 minutes; it applies even if recovery is not possible. We explain the likely options and obtain your approval before further work or separately quoted specialist lab services.
How much does data recovery cost?

Can deleted files be recovered?
Sometimes. The chances depend on the storage device, how the files were deleted, encryption and whether the data is still present. Deleted files on an SSD may not be recoverable, even if you stop using it promptly. Check existing backups and stop writing to the affected device. Do not install recovery tools onto that drive. We assess the available options without promising that every file can be recovered.
Will your technician browse personal photos and files?
Your local technician accesses only what is needed to confirm the recovery worked — typically checking that files open and aren't corrupted. Personal photos, documents and messages are not browsed, and nothing is copied anywhere except the drive you're keeping. Where possible, the work is done in front of you at home rather than taking the device away.
What should you do before your technician arrives?
Turn the device off and leave it off. Don't run recovery software, don't reinstall Windows, and don't keep restarting it to see if it comes good — each of those reduces what can be recovered. If a drive is clicking, grinding or beeping, powering it up again is actively damaging. If it's been dropped in water, don't try to charge or switch it on at all.
Lost files? Don't use the device — call first.
Describe what's happened and your local technician will give you an honest view on what's recoverable. The sooner a failing drive is looked at, the better the odds.
