02

Your technician comes to your home

At a time that suits you, in your own home. No need to carry anything anywhere.

03

We take our time

Work through the problem together, at your pace, with explanations repeated as often as you need.

04

Notes left behind

Simple written steps for anything you'd like to do yourself later, and you can always ring with a question.

How we can help

In-home computer help at your pace

One-to-one computer lessons

Choose a practical task you want to learn. We work through it on your own device, at your pace, with time to practise. Tell us your priorities when enquiring so we can agree the appointment scope.

Email & video calls

Get patient guidance with everyday tasks such as sending email or joining a video call. We can explain each step and provide written notes where helpful. The visit fee is not an unlimited training package.

Photos & important files

If you are changing computers, keep your old device and any backup available. Tell us what you want to move. We discuss compatibility and data-transfer work before continuing.

New computers & printers

Tell us which printer, accessories and software you use so we can discuss setup requirements. If the old computer will not start, it may need repair assessment before files can be transferred.

Wi-Fi & device connections

We explain confusing connection issues without assuming you need replacement equipment. For problems affecting rooms across your home, explore our Wi-Fi and home network help.

Suspicious messages & scams

If you allowed remote access or suspect a scam, ask about virus removal and scam cleanup before using the affected computer for banking or other sensitive tasks. Do not send passwords in your enquiry.

The initial consultation is $89, including travel within the service area, diagnosis and the first 30 minutes of work. Additional time is $25 per 15-minute block. Your local technician explains and agrees the expected cost with you before continuing. Parts and specialist lab services are quoted separately and require your approval. The $89 initial consultation fee applies even if a repair or recovery is not possible. There is no separate callout fee.

Common questions

Not confident with computers? Can you expect patient help?

Yes — that's the whole point of this service. Your local technician takes the time to explain things without jargon and is happy to repeat an explanation if that helps it stick. Nobody is born knowing this stuff. There are no silly questions here.

Can you set up a new computer and move everything across?

Yes, and it's one of the most common jobs your local technician does. Your local technician will set the new machine up from the box, move your photos, documents, email, contacts and bookmarks across from the old one, reconnect your printer, and set things up to look and behave as close to the old computer as possible so it doesn't feel foreign. Your local technician will also tell you what's safe to do with the old machine.

Can your local technician teach you rather than just fix the problem?

Absolutely, and you can have whichever you prefer on the day. Some people want it fixed and nothing more, which is fine. Others want to learn how to do it themselves — email, video calls with grandchildren, online shopping, banking safely. Your local technician will go at your pace and leave written step-by-step notes in plain English so you're not relying on remembering it all.

How can you check that a technician is legitimate?

A fair question, and worth asking of anyone. Hometown IT is based in Windsor, and your local technician visits by appointment rather than cold-calling about a supposed computer problem. Check the business details before booking. If someone calls unprompted claiming there's a problem with your computer, hang up and contact a technician through a number you've independently verified.

Can a family member arrange the visit on your behalf?

Of course, and it's very common. Family are welcome to book on your behalf, attend the visit, or call your technician afterwards to hear what was done — whatever suits you. If they live interstate and want to be kept in the loop, that can be arranged with your permission. You decide who's involved.

Need a hand with the computer?

Call and describe what you'd like sorted, in your own words. Your local technician comes to you, works at your pace, and explains it clearly.
